It has been lovely to welcome the girls into senior infants. We have been sharing our summer news. We have been learning all about ourselves and our families. We drew self-portraits and played with the toys in the classroom.
This October, we have been looking at the changing season. We went on an autumn nature walk and picked up some leaves and conkers. We made lovely autumn leaf pictures in Aistear. We learned that some animals get ready to hibernate and some birds migrate in the autumn.
We have started our paired reading with the girls in Ms. Flanagan's 5th class. Each Thursday, we pair up with our Reading Buddy in the library and they read us a story. When we go back to the classroom, we write the title of the book and draw a picture of our favourite part.
We have been busy this Maths Week! We have been using our Math's Eyes to come up with maths questions for things in our environment. On Tuesday, we spent some time playing fun games at the maths stations with some of the girls from 6th class. We got the iPads for the first time this week! We learned how to search for a website and played a maths game on the iPads.
Happy Halloween from everyone in room 4! We got all dressed up for our Halloween Fun Day and Witch Walk. We had witches and injured sports players, mermaids and cats to name just a few of the wonderful costumes! We have been cooking up some delicious Halloween treats in the Witch's Kitchen and creating spooky puppet shows in Aistear.
We have been learning about the importance of taking care of ourselves and the people in the community who can help us do that. Our Aistear play time has been a lot of fun. We have been role-playing the Beauty Salon, getting our hair washed, cut and straightened and manicures on our nails. In the writing stations, we have created beautiful nail art designs and fabulous hairstyles. We made up-styles and curls with playdough and have constructed Lego beauty salons. We have also been learning about the dentist and have been having role-play time in the dentist's surgery. We have been checking for cavities and carrying out extractions. We have been tracing and cutting teeth and toothbrushes.
We wore our Winter Woollies to school today! Everyone looked wonderful! Just in time for the Toy Show!!
December has been filled with fun and Christmas festivities. We have been learning all about the penguins in Antarctica. We have been playing in the post office, weighing parcels and selling stamps. We were practicing our two songs for the school carol-service. We are singing Away In A Manger and Bualadh Bos. We had a class Talent Show. Some girls sangs songs and others told funny jokes. Our Elf 'Twizzle' finally arrived from the North Pole too! We visited Santa in his grotto. Congratulations to Eimear, who won 1st place in the Christmas Market Colouring Competition.
Happy New Year! We have been learning all about the shopping centre in Aistear. The clothes shop, toy shop and food court is set up in the classroom. Kate made a very imaginative bird with blocks during construction time. We explored bread with our 5 senses and we investigated what happens when bread is heated. It turns into toast! The classroom smelled so good! Brian has been teaching us lots of skills in GAA football and camogie coaching. We go twice a week! We were reading The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson. Linking with the clothes shop from Aistear, we used fabric and fibre to design outfits on our own paper dolls. Aren't they nice?
World Book Day was on Thursday 7th March. The girls dressed up as their characters from their favourite books. They brought in their favourite book and were enjoyed an extra long Buddy Reading session with Ms. Flanagan's 5th class girls who kindly read them their favourite books.
Today we went to see Bake! a show by The Riverbank Arts Theatre from Newbridge. There was one actor who played all the parts about a little girl who baked a cake for a prince in the castle. We helped her bake the cake, stacking all of the layers. It was spectacular!
We have been making clay pinch pots in art. These will turn into beautiful birds nests. We have been learning a lot about the farm and the vets in Aistear and SESE. We took inspiration from the show that we saw and have been doing some acting of our own, creating our very own puppet shows! We have enjoyed some wonderful lunchtime performances.
The girls enjoyed all of the activities this Seachtain na Gaeilge. Comhghairdeas to Aoibh who made a huge effort to speak Irish this week and won Gaelgeoir na Seachtaine. The girls attended an Irish film and danced in the céilí. They sang a fantastic song and enjoyed watching the other classes' performances.
Wellbeing Week has been all about Friendship. The girls in room 4 have been great friends this week. They were extra kind, playing and sharing with their friends. The girls have had great fun doing lots of new activities. On Monday, they had a yoga session with Ms. Young. They spent time drawing friendship pictures on the yard. These were beautiful. They thought of all of the things they are grateful for. The girls played with the 5th class girls on Wellbeing Wednesday. On Thursday they brought in their favourite toy to play with their friends. It was a wonderful week!
