What’s happening in our Active School?

Active School Leaders

Our 5th and 6th Class Active School Leaders have trained up and are on the playgrounds. The ASL team work on our three school yards. They set up and organise our game of the week. In September the ASL went to the Junior Classes and taught some of the games. We meet once a month to discuss new games and ideas for the Active School. In the Senior Yard they also run the “Red Zone” which is an area of organised games picked by the 5th and 6th Class students. Our ASL Team aim is to get as many students as possible to be involved and active during the break times. We have taught some dances at assemblies in Term1. On Wednesday we have a Junior Disco and on Friday the Senior Disco takes place.

New Activities: Karate

Following the feedback from Active Schools Week 2023, Liam Darcy from Ultimate Karate Fitness has been working with all of our students this year. Each class received 6 lessons from Liam. The younger classes focused on Fundamental Movement Skills for Karate while the senior classes looked at self-defence. The students really enjoyed getting to experience a different type of sport.

Swimming

2nd-5th Class students will be attending 6 weeks of swimming lessons this year. We attend these lessons in K Leisure in Naas.

1st and 2nd Class students will be engaging with LAND PAWS in the summer months, which teaches the children about Primary Aquatics Water Safety.

GAA and Camogie

We are incredibly lucky in Scoil Bhride to have our local GAA in Clane so involved with our school. Brian Murray leads the GAA and Camogie coaching sessions in Scoil Bhride on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During the winter months we use our school Hall but when the weather improves the students go across to the GAA grounds for their lessons. When all of our lessons have finished we will hold a GAA Blitz over a week in June.

Annual Events:

Witchy Walk

For this year’s Witchy Walk on our Active School’s Pathway we decided to challenge the students with different activities as they walked around the school. We had a “Floor is Lava” Section, a Ghost Busters Run, and a Zombie Walk amongst other stations. Huge thanks to the ASL that helped organise and run the stations for the school!
