Welcome to First Class Room 15.

We hope you enjoy looking at all of the interesting things that we are doing and learning this year.

Fiona from Dogs’ Trust came to visit us with her dog Jake.
We learned a lot about dogs. Fiona told us how to be safe around dogs, to always ask the owner’s first if we can pet their dog and how to pet a dog properly.

We learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly in science.

Now we are raising Painted Lady Butterflies in our classroom so that we can see the different stages of a butterfly’s life up close.

These are the photos so far!

Life Cycle Facts:
– Painted Lady Butterflies will go through their entire life cycle (egg, larvae/caterpillar, pupa/chrysalis, and adult) in less than a month!
– Butterflies make a chrysalis; moths make a cocoon. They are different. A chrysalis is made from hardened protein as the butterfly caterpillar sheds one last time. A cocoon is made from silk the moth caterpillar spins around itself. A butterfly pupa has nothing spun around it.

An Damsha Mór:

The girls in room 15 started to learn how to play camogie in March.

They are enjoying every minute of their sessions.

World Book Day 2017:
To celebrate World Book Day 2017, the girls from Room 15 dressed up as their favourite characters from their favourite books.
They girls had great fun showing off their costumes and talking about their favourite books.
Thanks to everyone at home who helped the girls with their costumes.

We collected 3D shapes at home and then made 3D constructions in school. The girls made rockets, houses, cars, animals and much more.

As part of our writing for Lift Off, we have been very busy learning how to write procedures.

To help us with writing our procedures, we made the procedures first.

Our first recipe was Chocolate Rice Krispie Buns and then we made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.

The girls in Room 15 really enjoy making different recipes and are great bakers.

We had great fun getting dressed up in our festive Christmas clothes and shopping at the Christmas markets in the hall.

October 2016:
We dressed up for Halloween today and went for a witch walk around the school . It was great fun. Thanks to everyone at home who put in such a huge effort with the costumes.

Well done to Katie who won the Best Costume Prize in Room 15.

Have a look at the rest of the super costumes.

The girls are so excited about learning how to play the violin this year.

The girls are continuing to learn gymnastics this year with their coach Leonard.

In March, Fiona from The Dogs’ Trust came to our school to visit the Junior Infant, Senior Infant and First classes.
Fiona brought in a lovely dog called Jake.
Fiona taught us how to correctly pet a dog and how to be safe around dogs.
After that, everyone got a chance to pet Jake.
We really enjoyed the visit.

In Science we learnt about plants and what they need to grow.
The we did an experiment to show that plants need air, water and sunlight.

We also grew our own broad beans in the classroom.

The girls were all star growers.
